Bituni University (Istanbul)

An applicant who searches “Biruni University Istanbul” is usually asking three things: is this a health university, what does it cost, and is there a dorm? The campus sits in Zeytinburnu, close to the city walls and the Marmara line. Tram, metrobus and Marmaray meet in the same district. The university hospital and the oral and dental hospital pull clinical training onto the same block. Biruni is a foundation university opened in 2014 and named after the scholar Abu Rayhan al-Biruni.

Headcounts move with the source. A university sustainability file lists 14,679 active students, 22,449 graduates, 402 academic staff, 95 clubs, seven faculties, one institute and one vocational school. External pages put total enrolment at 12,000–13,600 and international students at 1,700–3,500 from 70–80 countries. The official international fee page shows 87 programmes, 16 of them in English. Why choose it? Health first. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, midwifery, audiology, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and a long list of two-year health techniques sit under one roof. Students see patients in the university’s own hospital. Price second. Outside medicine and dentistry, most bachelor programmes on the agent sheet are USD 4,000–5,000 a year — below the Beşiktaş private-university band. Housing third. The university runs female and male dormitories; an early-booking window, a 5 percent cash discount and instalments appear in official notices. Erasmus+ is active; EUA, NAFSA and EAIE memberships are listed. Associate degrees are mostly USD 4,500–5,000 a year: anaesthesia, dialysis, medical imaging, laboratory, oral and dental health, dental prosthesis, audiometry, physiotherapy, nuclear medicine, perfusion, biomedical devices, pharmacy services, emergency care. Bachelor programmes start at USD 4,000 (software development, gastronomy, industrial design, child development, electrical and electronics, counselling, occupational therapy, interior architecture, primary mathematics education, audiology, speech therapy, midwifery). The USD 5,000 band covers chemical engineering, preschool education, physiotherapy, computer engineering, molecular biology and genetics, software engineering and special education. Pharmacy is USD 10,000. Medicine and dentistry in Turkish are listed at USD 19,000 a year (USD 17,100 if paid in cash). Agency tables often show English medicine and dentistry near USD 21,000 — the offer letter wins. Master’s non-thesis fees are USD 3,000–4,000 for the programme; most thesis master’s degrees USD 6,000; speech and language therapy thesis is an outlier at USD 20,000. Doctoral programme fees are USD 10,000, with a dense cluster of dental clinical doctorates.

Agency pages quote annual room prices around USD 11,400 (single) to USD 5,000 (five-person); treat those as marketing, not a contract. Shared flats in Zeytinburnu, Bakırköy and Güngören cost less per person. Living costs on top of rent in Istanbul commonly sit between USD 700 and 1,400 a month. Do not budget from tuition alone.

Biruni fits a student who wants Turkish-medium medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or a health associate degree with hospital practice next door and a university dorm queue. It is a poor fit for someone hunting a fully English business-communications campus on the Bosphorus. Apply with diploma, transcript, passport, photo and any exam or language certificate. Start the residence permit within 30 days of arrival.
