Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University was founded in 1950 in the city of Atyrau as a teachers’ institute and is today one of the leading regional public universities in Western Kazakhstan. Its official website is atyrau.edu.kz.
The university is the main higher education institution of the Atyrau region on the Caspian Sea coast. Approximately 6,000–8,000 students are enrolled, and more than 50 educational programmes are offered. Bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes are available in pedagogy, the humanities, natural sciences, economics, law, arts, and tourism. Due to its location in the oil and energy region of Western Kazakhstan, programmes supporting regional development are also available.
Dual degree programmes: The university actively runs dual degree programmes. At the master’s level in particular, there are joint programmes with Nigde Omer Halisdemir University in Turkey and Astrakhan State University in Russia. Through these programmes, students can obtain both a Kazakhstani diploma and a diploma from the partner university.
Atyrau University is an accessible choice for international students who wish to study in Western Kazakhstan, are looking for an affordable university, and are interested in pedagogy, economics, or regional studies. It offers a calm student life in the Caspian region.
