In the QS World University Rankings 2026, the university is ranked approximately 166th in the world, confirming its position as the highest-ranked university in Kazakhstan. In the QS Asia University Rankings it stands at 38th place and is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious universities in Central Asia. The university has also been awarded the QS 5 Stars rating.
Around 20,000–30,000 students study at KazNU, including more than 7,000 international students from over 55 countries. The university offers more than 500 academic programmes, including over 60 dual-degree programmes with international partners. The main fields of study include law, economics, international relations, journalism, history, philosophy, philology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, geography, ecology, medicine, and pedagogy. The academic staff numbers approximately 2,900, and the university operates more than 140 research laboratories.
